Brian Johnson, an Area 6 candidate, said he'd be open to seeking recourse for an election he alleges featured disenfranchised voters and ballot infractions.
The recount for Rapid City Area Schools' Area 6 race is scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday, July 17 at the Pennington County Auditor's Office. Brian Johnson, the Area 6 challenger, requested the recount following his 546-543 loss to Area 6 incumbent Jamie Clapham on June 3.Ģż
Johnson made a post announcing the recount date on his Facebook page Saturday, July 12. Clapham confirmed the time, date and place to the Journal. A message to the district wasn't immediately returned.Ģż
The recount was initially scheduled for June 12, but was delayed mostly because Johnson objected to four of the five people the district suggested to monitor the recount. Johnson told the Journal his objections were a byproduct of the district suggesting people who he considered had strong district ties.Ģż
Nonetheless, despite Johnson's objections,Ā Clapham was sworn in for her second term at a July 1 RCAS board of education meeting.Ģż
"We'll find out if it's the end of the journey," Johnson said while shrugging his shoulders in a recent about the recount. "Or, is it just the beginning of the journey? You'll have to tune in to find out."Ā
